Southern California Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates – Region 7
Greetings to all GI Nurses and Associates,
Allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself: I have been in GI since the early 1980’s and certainly have seen some amazing changes in the way we practice GI Nursing. I was one of the first groups of nurses to sit for the Certification Exam when there was no study guide, certification courses and reference books. A bunch of us met in San Francisco in a small conference room at the University and with pencil in hand took the test. I was sure I did not pass, but I did and I have not looked back since. What exciting times we live in now with dramatic changes in the field of Gastroenterology and the new emerging technology. Who could have predicted the importance the assistants play in our endoscopy suites. I can’t imagine a procedure without them. And could we all predict that the invasion of CRE in our units would change forever the way we reprocess our endoscopes. Our unit reprocessing area is undergoing a $1.2 million make over just to ensure our patients are safe.
This year is going to be a year of growth and change within our organization. We will go totally paperless with all of our information for conferences. Links to SGNA, ABCGN and the Board will be located on our web page (please check out our very comprehensive and I might add great web page). Most of our communications will be electronic so be sure to check your e-mail for the latest.
We will sponsor two conferences this year: Costa Mesa and Pasadena. Our conference for Costa Mesa has some stellar speakers lined up so please plan to attend. Each conference will feature our immense local talent that we have here in Southern California and 8 CEU’s will be offered in both locations. We will also reach out to those in the community that are less fortunate and solicit donations of gently used professional clothing at each event. Lastly we will as in the past we will have the much needed raffles for fund raising for worthy causes: Esophageal Cancer and Wounded Warriors are my focus for 2016.
Please plan to attend our events and meet our Board members, we are a friendly bunch would love to get to know each and every one of you. And while you are at it grab your fellow worker and bring then along too….it will be a worthwhile experience.
